M7 and Midtown Phoenix Gay Bars - I thought I'd separate out the Melrose on 7th bars since they're all so close together and its as close to a gay neighborhood as Phoenix is gonna get.   Melrose is roughly the stretch of 7th Avenue between Camelback and Indian School Roads.  The focus being the area just south of Campbell on 7th Avenue.
M7 Background- In the 50's, Melrose was a pedestrian friendly destination. New home developments touted proximity to the Melrose shops. Later they put the suicide lane down the middle of 7th Avenue making it like a freeway. If you're not familiar with this flawed concept, its the reversible lane Valley drivers fear and loathe. It changes direction depending on which way the rush hour traffic is heading. Sounded like a great idea... yeah, until you run head-on into someone unaware of the time or the rules of the lane.
Anyway, the suicide lane ruined the street. Hopefully the Streetscape Panels project will help revitalize the area. At least until the lane is converted into a beautiful landscaped traffic island. Well, maybe someday.

Making M7 Home - If you're looking for a gay neighborhood in Phoenix, Melrose and its surrounding neighborhoods make for a great home. With light rail just around the corner and redevelopment everywhere, I see no other way than up.
Gay owned and operated Clarendon Hotel is within a mile, the gay Safeway is just down 7th at Osborn. You never know who you'll bump into there. "Oh, gawd... I think I slept with him."

Around the corner from Safeway is the very gay Park Central weekend crowd who frequent Park Central's Starbucks and The Good Egg. As for real parks, don't forget how close the new Steel Indian School park is from M7. My hunch is, that if you're gonna buy, do it before light rail is completed. Hurry, I want more gay neighbors!

Amsterdam / Club Miami - BEST GAY BAR FOR LESBIANS
  2007 BOP
This suave lounge has long been a favorite of Phoenix gays because it hosts "female illusionists" (a high-society-sounding way of saying "drag queens"), male revues, and the flamboyant karaoke that's a staple of Valley gay bars.  http://www.amsterdambar.com/

Apollo's Lounge, 5749 N. 7th St., (602) 277-9373
Valley gay bar veteran, nice neighborhood feel.

BS West - BEST GAY BAR (2005)

BS West Gay Bar  Best of Phoenix
Absolutely one of the friendliest clubs you'll ever party at, whether you're bi, gay, straight, or none of the above. Hidden in Scottsdale's back streets near the 5th Avenue Shops in Old Scottsdale.

Burn Nightclub   BEST GAY BAR (2007)  (CLOSED DOORS WINTER 2007)
Burn  2007 BOP
Here's what we love about Burn: it's a gay bar that's not totally gay. Don't take that the wrong way — we get the message the buckets of free condoms, the black-and-white photos of hot chiseled abs, and the shirtless man wearing a bow tie and passing out paper towels in the unisex bathroom.

Cell Block (formerly Padlock) - BEST GAY LEATHER BAR (2005)
998 E. Indian School Rd.  (602) 266-5640
Cell Block Gay Leather Bar  2005 BOP
Locating this nightspot can be difficult if you're not a leather queen or at least a fan of same, since the Padlock has no flashy sign, just a giant black and blue flag (which means "Trusses and biker caps in here, lads!") painted on the front wall. Inside, dungeon decor and dartboards are the play stations of bare-chested, buff and burly studs who pack the place every weekend for special events like "Uniform Night" and the "Best Asset Contest" designed to make even the toughest leather daddy blush. "Drop'm and drink" Tuesdays get bottoms and tops alike to party in nothing but underwear for half-price drinks. Looking for an excuse to dust off those leather chaps and riding crop? Now's your chance to spank your weekend for being bad and embark on a night of naughty fun.

 Best of PhX

Phoenix, AZ 85004  602-413-5159

Don't try ordering an apple-tini here. It's a gay bar, but not that kind. No fancy drinks, electronica or twinky go-go boys. At Club Zarape, the standard swill is a can of Tecate beer with a lime wedge and salt packet on top.

J.C's Fun One, 5542 N. 43rd Ave., Glendale, (623) 939-0528
Neighborhood bar, Karaoke, "Longest Running West Side Bar".   For some reason, gay bars haven't done well on the West side in the past.  Maybe JCs will change all of that.

Karamba @ BOOM 1724 E. McDowell Rd.  THU/SAT

Kobalt @ Park Central Mall (Central Ave @ Earl)
In the center of the open air mall you'll find this little treat tucked away.  While you're in the area, The Good Egg always gets a big gay weekend turnout as do the Park Central Starbucks and Qudoba restaurant.
